please use protection.
I know that 5 days after isn't the best, sperm can live for up to 5 days after, so theres the risk that you can ovulate with sperm still around. really the best way to avoid unwanted protection is to use contraception, simple as that

You cannot rely on the before and after method sorry its a bit of Russian Roulette. Condoms, implant or the pill are the only relative safe methods. There is no right time, sex is and should be mutually spontaneous and protected ro avoid pregnancy and infections. The safest time? well usually when no one else i looking and you want privacy to enjoy it!

The 5 days before and after are not for everyone. Your/her cycle can change without you knowing it. Have you tried the Basal method of birth control? Very handy and I have to say it has never failed me. Look it up on Wikipedia or do other research. You'll be amazed at what it can do for you. Good luck.

Use protection, but remember that even that can let you down.
I'm sorry, but the only way to 100% avoid pregnancy is abstinence.
