Well, there are 100 centimeters in every meter. So you have 500 centimeters to work with.
Divide 500 by 30 to figure out how many pieces of 30 centimeter long ribbons you will have. Your answer? 16. You will have 16 ribbons that are 30 centimeters long.
Now for your remainder. When you divide it all out on paper (not using a calculator) you will notice that you have a remainder of 20. And because we already converted to centimeters, that's your answer.
16, 30 centimer long pieces of ribbon with 20 centimeters of ribbon left over.
Thanks, that was fun!

Number of pieces = 500/30 = 50/3 = 16
30 x 16 = 480 cm
Remainder = 20 cm

5m = 500cm
500cm divide by 30cm = 16.66667
16pcs X 30cm = 480cm
Remainder is 500cm - 480cm = 20cm

Therefore, we can get 16pcs of 30cm ribbons
And remainder is a pc of 20cm ribbon

5m is 500 centimetres. Try subtracting 30cm from it over and over and see how many you get. Alternatively, try dividing 500 by 30.
