Yeah, Really your meant to steep new towels in cold water over night, then wash them as it makes them more absorbent, As for new underwear, you don't know who's been handling them, Wash before wearing.!!!!

Yes u never know how many hands have been on them @ the store and to put them on ur body without washing them would be really bad also the material seems rough and so it is nice to come out of the shower and into a nice new and clean towel and then put on some nice clean soft underwear.

Towels - YES - I always wash, because they may have been in the stores too long - with dust and other things floating thru the air, I feel I need them to be clean before I use them.
Underwear - If still sealed in the original plastic packaging, then I don't always wash them.
If not in original package, oh, yes, I wash them.
Someone might have tried them on...

I had neighbors once who did all kinds of things with clothes and then returned them to the store for a refund.

Yes to the towels as they have no absorption until they have been washed and I like them to be nice and soft and to smell nice. As for the underwear no!!!!!!!!! I honestly never thought of how many people had handled them but I might just do that in the future.

You gotta wash the towels. My hubby is a truck driver and was away from home one night and didn't have a towel with him. Off he went to a store and bought a dark green bath towel to use. He arrived home the next day looking like The Hulk. He'd dried his face, not had a mirror, and drove home with dark green dye over his face! He said he thought he was getting some funny looks! We still laugh about it now. What a plonker.

Yes, I wash everything new before I wear it, ever since I had an awful rash after wearing a new bra - great big red spots with yellow heads! Towels need washing to fluff them up and get rid of excess dye, they don't dry properly until they have been washed.

I do now, but when I was first married I didn't know you had to. I found out the hard way with hilarious results.

I put out my brand-new turquoise towels on the night of my 21st birthday party. My husband and I won't woke up in the morning feeling very ill with terrible hangovers. Unfortunately, we were both supposed to attend my husband's godson's christening that day. My husband had to go without me.

At the christening everybody commented on how ill my husband looked and he was advised to go home. It was later in the day that we found out the colour had transferred from the towels on to his skin.

I suppose it could have been worse if the towels had been yellow .

Yes, because the material used will not have been washed since the dyeing process, if you have sensitive skin this could result in an allergic reaction, plus as the others have said you don't know how many people have handled them in the manufacturing process and whether they had any skin complaints that could be passed on.
