I personally wouldn't trust a 13 year old to look after a baby. I don't think they would be mature enough or have enough experience. I would want someone who has experience in looking after a baby, knows basic life support, what to do if their was an emergency, i don't think a 13 year old would have these qualities.

I don't think I'd have a 13 year old babysit alone. Having her come over as a mother's helper to play with the children and keep an eye on things would be okay, but it's still important to have an adult on hand in case of emergency. In some places, it's not legal to leave children home alone (or babysitting) until they're 15 or 16, so you may want to check that out.

I started babysitting when I was 13, but then I had two younger brothers I had been watching since 12. So I really depends on her/his experience in the home or with close family friends. If she/he has no experience then have her come over and watch your child while you do little chores around the house. Otherwise just let the child and the girl/boy get to know each other.

It would depend on the 13 year old. I had a really good bond with my cousins baby as soon as she was born, when I was 10. I started to babysit for her when I was about 12 and coped quite well.

You need to know that she will be able to react efficiently, appropriately and be able to cope well if an emergency did happen to arise.

If you trust her and know that she will be able to cope with anything that may happen then I don't see why it would be a problem.

Its not a case of trust, its a case of responsability. I dont think a 13 year old should have that much responsability placed on it. Not to mention that in most cases it is illegal to leave a 13 year old alone to babysit. I think that it is obviously the government agreeing that placing that much responsability in the hands on a 13 year old.

Depends on the age of the child. I would limit the actual time spent away like an hour or two while the child maybe sleeping etc.

Yes, definitely maybe have her come over a few times and see how she interacts with your child. At 13 I was pretty responsible, but I know many of my friends seemed that way, but were not.

In general, it would depend on the 13year old.

If she is responsible, takes good care of kids and I'd trust her, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

I'm 13 and babysit and I'm really mature for my age, know who to contact in an emergency, I'm great with kids and I LOVE them! I would trust her if you think she is mature enough.
