I have a friend who gave birth to a little girl at 28 weeks. Doctors haven't been able to tell her way this happened. Her baby is now nearly two and is just as healthy, advanced and well adjusted as the rest of the children in our mother's group, yet she is experiencing a bit of anxiety with the thought of being pregnant again (even though she wants another one and at present is trying). Has anyone been through this b4 and what are the chances of another premature baby?

My son was born at 31 weeks after going into labor at 28 weeks, 29 weeks, and again at 31 weeks. The doctors weren't able to tell me why he was born early as well. I love babies and thought of having another one, but really didn't want to go through the possibility of having another premature baby. It's such a difficult and emotional time, especially when there are other siblings. When I found out I was pregnant in December, I was excited, but really nervous as well and I still am. My doctor has said that the chance of another premature baby is high (for me, anyway), and I'll be starting bedrest at 24 weeks (I'm 13 weeks now). Every situation is different, and my in-laws are thinking I'll go past my due date with this one, but my doctor has warned me that prematurity is definately a possibility, even earlier than my first. If your friend gets pregnant, she should ask her doctor about seeing a high risk specialist. That way they can monitor her more closely than a regular OB/GYN. I wish her the best of luck, and if she'd like someone to talk to about it, you can give her my email (zuckie44@hotmail.com)
