A question about registering for gifts for baby showers?

Question

How many places should I register? What type of things does one register for? How many items should I register for? Do I register for the bigger price items too? When I had my first baby 7 years ago, I was a older teen mom and I did it all on my own with either hand me downs or garage sale stuff. Now that I am having one the right way (being married and all that jazz), my family and friends are having a shower and suggesting that I register. My family says one thing, but I thinking another. Please help settle the debate.... THANKS!

This is a list a friend of mine found for me on a baby site...Im 33 weeks and i registered at 2 Stores and put everything i needed on there....Good luck!

Baby mittens (to keep from scratching its own face!)
baby hats (light ones for indoors, their heads get cold easily)

I dont see any harm in registering for everything that you want and what the registry suggestion books recommends. Some closer family members may buy some of the larger items like the stroller, car seat etc. THere is no good way to tell what you will need that you dont get at the shower. It's different on an individual basis. Just wait until after the shower and make a list and go for it. Good Luck

Register at one or two places. Pick two places that are easily accessable to most people who will be going- (ie dont pick places 40 minutes on the other side of town) or else you won't get anything from them. Register for both the small and big items- whatever you need. People will automatically get you clothes- so I wouldn't even bother putting them on there- unless you know you specifically need some things... You are better to have a wide variety of what you need- so no matter what someone wants to spend they can- plus if you put some big items on there- people can go in together and get you a bigger gift.

i'm not a mother but my close friend registered with one major store and went around selecting what she would like as gifts for the baby (she chose over 100 items with a range from $5 to $1000) the higher being prob family would purchase.
But i think its a great idea and people rush to get the pressies that they can afford or the better items (people are human i guess)
