The words for like and dislike are usually not verbs in Japanese, but adjectives. So essentially you say X is liked or X is disliked. And my middle school Japanese teacher told us you can't really say something like "I like your jacket" in Japanese, because it has a connotation of "I like your jacket and would like to have/take it". Instead you'd make a comment about it looking cool, cute, etc.
