you can drive on your australian license for a while , but getting car insurance may be difficult.

Eventually you must get an american state license , which means sitting the written test and taking a practicle driving test.

In some states the motorcycle license is another test.

You can apply for an International Drivers Licence. Contact motor rego dept

Nope, you'll have to sit your license and take a road test in whatever state you go to. Supposedly there are international drivers licenses, but I believe those are only a tourist thing.
