Why do the Americans think they can get away with killing our soldiers? They are trying to block this new tape of their soldiers firing on the British ones.

I agree fully, they think it is acceptable to do anything they please, but if tables were turned they would cause an outcry, it's time they were put in their place, it's bad enough having loved ones killed by enemy fire but so called friendly fire, it's disgraceful, how many of their soldiers did we accidentally kill???

I heard the recording. I heard the pilots mistakenly cleared to fire that "you are well clear of friendlies". I also heard the American pilot sobbing when he realized they were British.

That sounds very tragic and sad and definitely not premeditated to me. I'm not sure what your point is. Nobody seems to think it's ok.

"The pilot, identified by the call sign POPOV36, radioed back that the vehicles appeared to have orange panels used to indicate coalition forces to aircraft painted on top and asked Air Command to confirm that there were no "friendlies this far north on the ground."

"That is an affirm," Manila Hotel radioed back. "You are well clear of friendlies."

POPOV36 then contacted the second A-10 pilot, codenamed POPOV35, to coordinate the attack on the vehicles with "orange rockets" attached to them. An apparently confused POPOV35, however, requested that Forward Command fire an artillery round at the target to clear up the confusion, then suggested that the pair should return to base due to time constraints.

"I think killing these damn rocket launchers, it would be great," POPOV36 replied before rushing in to strafe the convoy.

Seconds after the circling for a second attack, American and British voices frantically call the A-10s to call off the attack — but the damage had already been done. Lance Corporal of Horse Matty Hull, 25, died of injuries sustained as the A-10s pumped 50-rounds per second of armor-piercing shells into the convoy. Four other British troops were also injured.

"I'm going to be sick," POPOV35 radioed when Air Command broke the news. POPOV36 can be heard sobbing in the background."

That doesn't sound like anyone who thinks it is "okay".

I'm a Canadian, And a solider no less, and I wanted to remind you that this isn't the first time the Americans have had a prob with friendly fire. A couple of years ago the Americans killed 4 or 5 Canadians. All they said was oops! No one was really held accountable for the loss of lives. And as for SGT D's answer...Am I aloud to talk about it because I'm a soldier?

I love the Americans, they are our friends, but they are a lot of trigger-happy guys in their forces. I mean, come on! One or two incidents we can excuse, but......! If I was a soldier and had to fight near the US army, I really would be more scared of getting shot by them then by our common enemy. I would, seriously!
I can just hear the helicopter gunship guy saying "Hey Sarge, theres a tank heading towards the enemy with a Union Jack painted on it" "Shoot the sumbitch, he must be an I-raki running away disguised as a British tank"

It's not deliberate, it's the American viewpoint - shoot first, ask questions later. The point is, they really don't care who they kill so long as they can go in, guns blazing, pretending to be great soldiers.

HEY!
Do you think they meant to do it?
Of coarse not. But showing the tape just hurts lots of people.
We would have done the same.
