Can Iran cooperate? I don't think so. The only way would be for USA to cave in on everything Iran wants and that isn't going to happen so no they can't.

There is enough fault to go around! Bush needs to engage Iran and other nations in the region in diplomacy instead of setting pre-conditions that will obviously not be met. Iran's nuclear power program is a reality. It will not be shutdown. Secondly, Ahmadinejad needs to stop his sabre rattling with Israel. The world knows he's anti-sematic, and wants Israel to be wiped off the map. That, too, is not going to happen. Both leaders are extremists, bent on rigid policies that doesn't lend itself to any flexibility on a diplomatic front. One won't compromise with the other. The only answer, unfortunately, is for the Americans to vote their conscience in 2008. 71% disagree with our policy in Iraq. American policy should reflect the will of the people, and it will. Ahmadinejad should be replaced by the Mullahs of Iran. He has backed his nation into a corner of no return. A reformist with a sense of flexibility and reason should also reflect the will of the Iranian people. They want peace. They lost almost a million Iranians 20 years ago. They are not ready for another conflict. Iranian economy is in shambles due to UN boycotts. The table can be set for a new beginning in 2009 provided there is willingness on both sides for mutual respect & peaceful co-existence. Otherwise, hot heads will prevail, and the options will be greatly reduced and more perilous to the world.

in 1953, we helped the British overthrow Iran's democratically elected government. We did this from our embassy in Tehran, which, naturally, was seized when the Iranians decided to throw off the dictator we had foisted upon them.

As long as Americans blither blather about Iran being out of line, with no thought at all to what America has done to/in that country and the region, it will be hard to produce that cooperation.

What does Iran want now? The bomb? Well, only we, the only people to have ever dropped the bomb, can decide who can have the bomb. Why? I don't know, but Americans seem really happy and self-righteous saying that. Even to the point of threatening to bomb Iran!

I don't know why this swaggering, kill 'em all attitude is so satisfying to so many Americans. My precious father, a retired Navy veteran, used to be so annoyed at Americans who wanted to send military folk off to kill kill kill all around the world. Not that the arm chair warriors wanted to risk their own lives, nor wanted to give any thought to the 'collateral damage' our mighty military inflicts.

Where did the bloodthirstiness come from? Church? Or just from being spanked?

If this is a joke, it isn't funny. Many Americans still remember the pictures of the now president of Iran holding blindfolded American hostages on TV. One could easily see the evil intent in that man's eyes. America will never cooperate with a man who is intent on domination and grabbing power.

the USA wants all to have some freedom, Iran seems to be threatening other countries who refuse to live by Iran's rules. why won't Iran come into the 21 century and work to make the world a safer place?

Iran must first join the world community. It's insistence on obtaining fissionable material for use in nuclear reactors "must" be monitored. IAEA inspectors must be allowed access to the facilities where this material is processed and used.

Otherwise any hope at cooperation is doomed from the start.

President Carter has put it out there, he told President Bush "we
must talk with the people we disagree with"

President Bush needs to stop trying to push other country's around and talk out our differences.

This is why the world is looking at the U.S.A. as a bully. How can they respect us?

Iran would first have to abide by the UN resolutions and stop making nuclear bombs.
