Anyone commiting rape, murder or child molesting needs hanging, no doubt about it, people can go on about human rights, but you have proven you aren't human to do these things to people.
For lesser crimes, prison needs to be seen as a hard place, not the holiday camp we see it reported as.
there is no fear for criminals. Get them breaking rocks or doing work and put them to use!

Some criminals view their capture and punishment as an occupational hazzard, which is why they constantly re-offend.
Prison is NO threat to these monsters and so another way of punishing them must be found.
It could be argued that the monster that raped the baby was insane and that means the person didn't commit the crime, the madness did. In other words the monster couldn't help themselves it was the mental illness that drove them to do it.
If a person is found to be mentally ill they cannot be punished for the crimes they have committed. They can only be put under section and placed in a Mental Health Facility until they are deemed fit to re enter society.
We could go back to the days of Nazi Germany and exterminate all of the people that are deemed NOT to have a place in decent society, but where would the line be drawn and by whom, to say who lives and who dies???

i imagine it truly is going to bypass like this. Least violent crimes ought to easily accept a lot less intense punishment no count number what the kinda screwed up concept the decide has. once the crimes graduate to robbery the sentences should be extra durable. once u hit rape homicide molesting crimes should be a lack of existence penalty no if ands or buts. i do not care what absolutely everyone says. i will not stand that my taxpayer funds is spent letting murders stay in luxury in penitentiary. they don't deserve it n I hate seeing murderers n pedophiles and rapists stroll loose with a comic book tale sentence of a year. Kill um they gained't change. Can a donkey change to a zebra? No. And a assassin won't be able to magically change right into a familiar good human being they don't look to be waiting to b kept similar with rapists n pedophiles

1. You are absolutely right that punishment would be a deterrent to some people. Bring back corporal punishment in school and nip it in the bud. Stop this nonsense that protects child criminals and sort them out. Crime at the moment seems to pay - we must make it so it does not appeal.
2. There are some people who should never be released into society again - its not so much punishment that needs to operate here - it is the protection of the rest of us. Paedophiles have serious personality disorders - what they do is evil but it seems to be a psychological issue. Paedo's need locking up for good - in the long term not for punishment but for protection for the rest of us.
3. Marking someone permanently with a tattoo would mean they could never be properly rehabilitated. While we should punish those who commit crime, we also ought to make it possible for people who are not a permanent danger and risk to others to be properly rehabilitated into society so they don't re offend.

I think we definitely would have less crime. The whole legal system is so outdated it is literally allowing people to get away with murder. It is giving the sickos the message to go out and rape and murder because you will be out of prison before you know it. I have 2 children and when I read about these poor innocent children getting assaulted, raped or beaten is makes my blood boil - I feel so angry and when you hear that they will be out in a few years it makes you want to hurt them so bad. The parents of these children must be reeling when they hear the verdict.
I don't like violence but I honestly think that if a child has been hurt in any way then the people who did it deserve what is coming their way. I also hope that when they serve their time they are raped and assaulted in the same way

No. It has been proven that criminals do NOT measure the consequences with their actions when they are about to commit a crime. It's more instinctual than it is intellectual. Premeditated crimes should have greater punishments, and they do - the justice system works, in measuring the punishment vs the crime... for the most park. Applying those punishments to the appropriate people is a different matter though.

They do have something called 3 strike and youre out which put people in jail for life after 3rd serious crime. I don't remember details, but it takes money to put people in jail and put them through the system, so only so much you can do. I bet that guy who got 6 years might get released much early with good behavior. Sometimes with credits for time served during trial plus parole, a criminal sometimes serve hardly any jail time. I did see people go to jail for life for lesser crime than rape for that 3 strike law. It's weird wacky system.

If its proved beyond a doubt the sentences should be really harsh
Prison`s should be places where people really fear ever having to go back into but as we know they are like holiday camps
As for paedophiles i think these are the worse and should be locked up for life ( NATURAL LIFE)

We all think virtually the same as you but, some do-gooders in this world think differently unfortunately,Yep,if proven then death should be for those who without question did the crime `n` life for others however this debate will run `n` run & nobody wins as we do not have the power to change the law.

Yes I think the punishments should be more severe!! Overcrowding of jails due to people in there for using or selling drugs is part of the problem. Murderers and other violent offenders should take priority in our prisons but most overcrowding is due to drug related sentences!! Something needs to be done.
