You are basically anonymous here and people can and do ask what they like. I am a practising GP,I also do out of hours telephone advice work for NHSDIRECT (24). I am off sick myself at present, I discovered Yahoo answers recently because of this, and I have only been answering questions for a week.
I am impressed by the general quality and sensibleness of 90% of the questions! It does however confirm that GPs are generally not taking the time to explain things to patients. They assume that patients ask when they don't understand things. I have always known this is not what happens.
When you get a batch of answers there are often one or two silly ones, but most answers seem to be from sensible everyday people genuinely answering the questions based on their own life experience.

If you are embarrassed about a personal problem you can always mention in your question that it is on behalf of somebody else who has asked you for advice.
People on this forum on the whole are more prone to try to give good advice than to be judgmental, and few bother to look at your old questions, so simply try asking. You may be pleasantly surprised. There is a wealth of expertise at large, and if the worse comes to the worse and none of the answers help, you can still go to a doctor.

You can ask it.
Just remember that because you are not personally examined by health professionals the answers can only be thought of as speculative and not to be taken as the final say to your problem.
Good luck though. There are knowledgable answerers out there.

just ask away - there are lots of personal questions on here, and some of us will probably have had the same experience as you, you'll get plenty of helpful answers (and probably some idiots who think they are clever at been sarcastic!! but ignore those ones!)
