Companies house is the obvious answer. However, most large public libraries used to have (may still have) lists of companies, directors, etc which was kept on microfiche and was being updated to be online in libraries about 10 years ago.
You might try your local library as a start point...

if the company is Indian then log on to www.mca.gov.in or www.dca.gov.in If it is UK company then take help of yahoo serach engine and type official Website of UK government and then follow the links till u reach the registrar of companies of UK website.

Search for the company name on http://www.companieshouse.gov.uk then pay a couple of quid to download the annual return and most recent accounts.
