My favorite by far is the Sicilian Dragon, Yugoslav Attack. It is such a chaotic and vicious opening with sacrifices being made nearly every turn of the game! The thing I love so much about the Dragon is its pawn-structure. Unlike so many other variations like the Najdorf, Scheveningen, Svesnikov, and Kalashnikov variations, it keeps a very sound pawn structure with pawns at e7 and d6, which leaves you with a clear advantage over White in the endgame, espically if you acheive the exchange cacrifice on c3, dismantling Whites Queenside Pawn setup.
It also helps that I have beaten players like FM Matt Bengston and IM Edward Formanek with the opening :)

First I would like to say I love your question. My favorite opening as White would have to be the Ruy Lopez preferably the Closed Variations. In the Closed Variations whites build up is slow and smooth plus the attack is very strong. The description of it being call the Spanish Torture is so true. With the Black pieces my favorite hands down has to be the Kings Indian Defense the attacking scheme the possibilities for different styles and the solidity of the opening makes it my top choice against 1.d4. Be warned let the "Kings Indian Lion" out of its cage and you will get tore up! Against 1.e4 I play the Sicilian Dragon its just so exciting and so vicious I love it!!!

As white I love the Max Lange, but I'll play a main line (5. Bg5)
variation of the Sicilian Najdorf in a heartbeat - both are exciting tactical openings.
As black, I play the Winawer variation of the French Defence
vs 1.e4 and the Nimzo-Indian vs. 1. d4 - both defences allow for counterplay and good winning chances.

Since there are two ways to play as white, I much prefer to be the big stick to the face rather than the stiletto in the dark. I adore my hyper agressive openings, so as white I play the kings gambit (Fischer Variation when possible) and as black aganst d4 I play The benko gambit, sacraficing all my queenside pawns for accenerated queenside development. Against e4 i play the Center counter gambit Qh5 variation, since i contest the center immeadiatly and get my queen out in the board in the third move!

The best opening is usually the one you understand better than your opponent. In my case that is the Caro-Kann which I have very good results with. Most of my opponents are well booked on Sicilian and Ruy Lopez type responses to e4. When I respond with c6 I can tell they are often uneasy with the resulting positions. That gives me a psychological advantage.

I like Sicilians from either side because of the dynamics, traps, and general attitude. Against 1.d4 I usually play Modern Benoni.
