Everyone always asks what the argument is against gay marriage. Isn' t that a little backward? Shouldn't the question be: what is the argument FOR gay marriage? The new proposal has the obligation to establish it's claim to legitimacy. Is it on the basis of a charge of discrimination? But everyone is permitted to marry someone of the opposite sex. gay's don't want to marry someone of the opposite sex? What does the matter of personal desire have to do with the form of the institution of marriage?

"why should we care" is always an argument for maintaining the status quo.

This is simply a further codification of the status quo my friend. We must first establish the existence of a such a right before it can be "restricted", but this it's defenders refuse to do.

Let the farkers have union. They will be DEAD in one generation because they can't reproduce.
Give them 40 years and they'll all be gone....
That's what they get for being selfish. Even monkeys know better! So this proves evolution is a fraud.

Oh give me a break! this is what someone said: "we're talking about unreasonable people who are Satanic. Satan, and his followers, could care less about reason. They just want their selfish ways and to be able to inflict them upon Christians."
that's just BS, someone has convinced you that you should defend yourselves against gays. how is wanting inheritance rights, the usual tax benefits, custody etc. harming you? no one is attacking you. Its not about you it's basic human rights, I don't see really great track record among heterosexuals with every other marriage ending in divorce. so someone wants a mini van, live in the suburbs and take the children (some of whom may be adopted or foster, which is way more than most right wing anti abortion persons are willing to do to support their convictions) to soccer practice, religious traditions of marriage have been sanctioned by civil governments, where it really has no place, leave marriage to religion, and let everyone else who wants a union gay or straight, to have a civil union if they want to share a life together don't we need to promote stable families? govenrment should not be the arbiter of religion

Arguments FOR Gay marriage:
1. When gay partners split up, theres no provisions for support payments etc. Actually being legally married removes this obstacle to support/ alimony/ etc. I should think "Traditional" conservatives would rather have them legally married than "living together in sin".
2. Why should gay people not be as miserable in marriage as the rest of us married idiots?
3. Stability in society. With at least half the marriages in this country ending in divorce, its gratifying to see a segment of society so interested in the traditonal marraige vows.

denying a population of people the exact same rights that other people in that society exercise is indeed discrimination. in the US there seems to be a bit of confusion as to the foundation of our country which is inherently the seperation of church and state. the gay community is not asking to be recognized in marriage by the church. a man and a woman can go to city hall and get a marriage certificate and have no religeous affiliations. the gay community should have the same rights. on the other hand the reason why this discrimination infuriates the gay community is because of the legal issues that we are being denied. ie. taxes, health insurance for partners, immigration, next of kin, etc. in my personal experience... i am living with my same sex partner in australia because it is my only option. i cannot marry my partner and keep her in america. so i have to be displaced from my friends and family who i love and miss very much. so you see how this blatant discrimination in a country that prides itself on concepts like "freedom" and "all men are created equal" is intolerable

While your question may be valid to some extent it's mostly fluff. While it would be reasonable to ask the gay marriage crowd to actually propose the reasons why we should allow gay marriage we're talking about unreasonable people who are Satanic. Satan, and his followers, could care less about reason. They just want their selfish ways and to be able to inflict them upon Christians. Nothing new here. Just the way it is. People who support gay rights are simply Satanic. They can argue and do a little sidestep but they can never prove the Godliness of their political stands.

The best argument is: Why the hell do you care?
If you've been paying attention, you'll notice the fundies have been pushing for a BAN on gay marriage. So, by your logic you should have to prove why restriction of a persons rights is necessary.
Regardless, I think it's important we try to ban republican marriage. They shouldn't be breeding anyway.

You know, gay people have been around as far back as history can take us.
They are not gay because they want to be,god made them that way. No one would wish for that.
If two people want to express there feelings so what, let them have what the other Americans have.
If they pay taxes and don't break our laws its fine with me.

I support civil unions, not marriages. There is a difference. Gays should have the same political and social rights afforded any other citizen or taxpayer. They should not be discriminated against when it comes to opportunities, with exception of civil rights. I don't acquaint their lifestyles the same with conditions of racial inequality. Because of my faith (and this is my personal decision), I could not accept gay marriages. I don't preach it or shove my opinions down someone else's throats because each person has a right to his own choices. My sister is a lesbian who has lived with the same woman for over 20 years. They had a civil union without telling our family. I was hurt because I do love her. I love her and accept her, but she had so much fear of rejection that she couldn't invite those with whom she has loved her entire life. She knows my beliefs, but also knows my feelings for her. That's all that matters to me.
