with my daughter i breast feed till she was 9mths old I had the same problem I bought a bottle made by Tommie tippi you can get them at Woolworth and some chemist. It almost looks an avent bottle but the teat is like the breast shape. Once you have bought this bottle( they came in 2 pks. roughly $20 I paid), what I did was my normal routine sat where I normally did I tried this when I knew she was hungry and relaxed , I place her mouth close to my breast as if your going to breastfeed and then placed the bottle in her mouth still keep her close the my breast. Remember that babies have a very good sense of smell while you have your baby on your chest it smells the same, so you basically trick your baby, formula as well maybe that your baby may not like so keep that in mind look it takes time but persist with patients. The first time she took it the second she didn't and it kept going like this for about 3 days and then she just took the bottle babies will notice that it is less work with the bottle and they feel more satisfied. Don't think about how long you have before you need to return to work cause that will stress you and your baby will sense that take each day as it comes be really relaxed before you try the transition. I had a customer that had the same problem told her the same and it worked for her. all the best

There are some nipples that are closer to the natural shape of a human nipple. Try looking for those. Also remember that to suck on a bottle requires a difrent direction to suck and they will need to learn how. With every feeding try the bottle first, and when they become frustrated then offer the breast. Most kids find the bottle easier and less work. Give it time.

hi
im breastfeeding my son at 8 mths and he will not take a bottle (had a sore nipple tried to give him some of my expressed milk in a bottle)

I tried giving him a bottle when he was screaming for milk and he still would not take it.
I've also tried teats that feel the same as nipples and they didnt work either!
i dont know what im going to do when i cant breastfeed anymore but my son is starting to drink water from a trainning cup so hopefully i'll be ok! lol

keep trying with the bottle, he will eventually take it but there might be alot of work to get him to do that and crying.

who ever is going to look after your baby, get them to feed him with a cup of your expressed milk.- thats if you intend to express or are you gonna stop altogether?

if your gonna stop breastfeeding i wouldnt wean him off, just take him straight off and get him used to a bottle!

good luckx

Have you tried having someone ELSE offer the bottle? He is smart and knows you have the real thing straight from the tap so he'll hold out. Have Dad or Grandma offer a bottle while you aren't even in the room.

Have the caregiver try different positions. Try just like nursing. Try with baby propped against caregiver's knees, facing each other. Try with baby's back to the caregiver's chest, so baby is facing out. Try having the person get up and walk around with baby in a sling or front carrier while starting the bottle.

What is in the bottle? Pumped milk or formula? Try offering pumped milk so that the taste will be familiar.

What kind of bottle? Maybe he doesn't like the nipple you've offered. Try the Avent bottles. They have a shape similar to the breast and a lot of breastfed babies like them. Use a slow-flow nipple so that he doesn't get overwhelmed by the milk coming too fast.

Try at a time that baby isn't starved. He'll be more willing to try something new if he isn't starving.

Medicine dropper, oral syringe, a spoon, a soft-spout sippy and a small cup (like comes with Pepto Bismol) are all other possible ways to get milk into him.

How many hours will you be separated?

My son is breastfed also. I started using Avent bottles and it took about 10 minutes for him to take the bottle every time! So, I switched to Dr.Brown's bottles. The nipple is smaller and softer and easier for my son to get into his mouth. It was such a blessing! Also, my babysitter used to work in a pediatrician's office (she's a nurse) and she said everyone that switched to Dr.Brown's was so thankful because they also are great for colic. Hope this helps.

Try to have someone else feed the bottle to the baby. He knows your smell and what you have to offer, so he is rejecting the bottle. Have a friend or another family member give him the bottle and you go take a long bath. It has worked for 2 of my friends and myself so far.

Good luck

Although I didn't breastfeed, when my son was born, he had REAL trouble feeding from the clear silicone teats I had used with my firstborn.
We had reached a point where a midwife had to be called out to see if she could get him to take milk.
She tried for hours, and nearly had to hospitalise him with borderline dehydration.
She gave me advice that I used for my next two babies - Find the cheapest, softest latex teats you can find as they are easier for babies to suck in. (My son was finding the teat TOO HARD).
I went to our local 'cheapy shop' and bought 3 latex teats for 99p when I tried the baby on them, he took a 6oz feed straight down and we never had problems again..
Maybe this advice will be no use to you, but it worked for my baby!

Best of luck..
S. xx

well dont just change him cold turkey.....when he is awake, and really hungry try to give him the bottle....it will take time, however you should be able to do it in 20 days.
