So he's death, and he falls in love with a girl. Does she finally realize who he is? That part isn't clear to me. Especially when they have their moment when she says she's lifting off and scared.
And in the end, when the coffee shop guy gets returned to his body, does she know what happened?
She has to know something, because she said "I wish you could have known my father." As in past tense.
So please shed some light on this for me!

Honest answer? You already know it. THe thing is that you cant believe that is actually whats going on!
So yes, nice coffee shop guy dies, death takes over, takes papa Hopkins on his bday night, and leaves...so whats left? the body! And being Hollywood as it is, they have to leave us something good if they are taking Anthony Hopkins. So what do they leave us? Nice and cute coffee shop guy, aka, Brad Pitt.
No information needed, she knows something was going on and when she saw him again she realized it wasnt the same person she saw before. He was, in fact, the guy she once met, with a certain glow on his face. And she knows he doesnt know what happened, so she says, as you said "I wish you could have known my father".
Dont you love that? I mean, she meets the guy, falls for him, then he comes back all weird and serious, pretending he never met her (same body different soul!) and then appears again being Mr Nice Guy. To which she thinks to herself 'oh no my dad was taken by death! but thank u for leaving coffee shop guy)

Clair Forlani senses something amiss, since that old lady in the hospital dies. Then when Anthony and Brad go off together and Brad comes back not knowing anything, she, I think knows her father is dead.
Anyway it is left for us to interpret. They say, love can happen between anyone.

in all honesty, ive watched the movie more than once and still cannot get it and no1 else can explain it to me either
i'll keep this question on my watchlist to see if others answer so that I can understand what happened also :|
