Depends greatly on the application. If you want to compare benchmarks in various applications, I highly recommend checking out the CPU Charts at Toms Hardware. They usually list a range of processors that you can compare against each other in various benchmarks.

Alternatively, I would go with the Core 2 and overclock it. The last E6300 I built I got it running at 2.6GHz without any difficulty at all. Results will vary of course depending on motherboard type, RAM type and CPU Cooler type.

Core 2 Duo is MUCH FASTER

but...

your computer is only as fast as it's slowest part...

(meaning that if your motherboard doesn't support such a high FSB, you won't get the advantage. Also, you need lots of RAM for the computer to work with. You could have the fastest CPU on the planet, but if your computer has no RAM, it will be VERY, VERY slow. I would recommend a minimum of 1 gig.

Bottom line: If the rest of your computer's hardware can keep up, get the core 2 duo

Also, (correct me if I'm wrong) when certain software products are installed, they scan your system to be sure it meets the minimum requirements... this might cause a problem for some programs, even though the processor *can* handle it.

Intel center 2 Duo by potential of a ways. Its extra modern-day, quicker technologies. the fee of the processor isnt the only ingredient to look at for a cpu's overall performance. case in point, my families laptop has a three.3ghz pentium D that runs alot slower than my computers 2.6ghz center 2 duo. Pentium D makes use of an previous shape that's plenty slower than the c2d. wish this facilitates.

Core 2 Duo is better, two heads are better than one.

Core 2 wins by default, hands down.
