There are several: Lord of Darkness by Robert Silverberg, The Incarnations of Immortality by Piers Anthony, several books by Louis L'Amour(bring back westerns!), The Iron Tower Trilogy by Dennis L. McKiernan, Cthon and Cthor by Piers Anthony, The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice(but NOT the same people that made that atrocity Queen of the Damned!), The Garrett Chronicles by Glen Cook, Bridge of Birds, The Story of the Stone, and Eight Skilled Gentlemen by Barry Hughart, and so on. There are people in Hollywood that really DO care about the novels they adapt for movies, Peter Jackson proved that.

A Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole
A Pulitzer Prize winning novel from 1980 that is absolutely hilarious. They have been trying to make this into a movie since it won, but has been tagged a "cursed script" because all of the people considered for the lead role have died, some being John Belushi and Chris Farley. I hope they just get someone huge and fat to play the lead and not some idiot in a fat suit....And no Jim Carrey.

Quicksand by Junichiro Tanizaki but I would prefer it be done either in Japanese with Japanese actors or adapted to an American cast. I wouldn't want a disaster of the likes of Memoirs of Geisha inflicted on this awesome book.
