I have some words of advice... GO IN THE COLD MONTHS. I went in the spring of 2003 and it was in the uper 90s Fahrenheit. In Sharm El Sheikh, it was 107F the day we arrived, and this was just the spring. If you live in Southern California, it was like Lancaster in the summer. Ugh!!! Go from November - February, the weather is very nice then. Besides, airfare is cheaper during the off-season, better for you.

Yes, food in Egypt is very cheap. In some restaurants it can be expensive, but for street food it's very cheap. As for alcohol, I don't touch the stuff so I can't say, but judging from the other entries here, it's cheap. Btw, if you smoke cigarettes (which I do), they cost around $0.50 usd, at least that was what I paid in 2003. I got 8 packs for the equivalent of $4 usd. Right now $1 usd is around 5.80$ LE (Egyptian pound).

Seriously though, hold off on going in the summertime. I can't figure out whyyyyyy so many people go during that time when it's hella hot? Like I said, Nov - Feb is the best time to go. That way, upper Egypt is only 70-80 F, which is very nice.

i don't know where u live but most of the time Egypt is cheaper than other countries as i hear from our guests here, so as example if u gonna drink 1 bottle of beer it may cost around 2 u$ as average depend on the place where u will drink and expensive that place is.
also i know el cohol in egypt bit higher than the prices in Europ, food is ok , u can have a good hot meal at any nice resturant with around 7 u$ as avreage depen on what u will eat.
wish u a nice trip and hope if u would like to know any more info just contact back.

Yes, the currency rate in Egypt is around 5.75 L.E to $1, so food and alcohol, going out in general is very cheap. Clothes shopping can be expensive though so make sure you get all what you need with you. Hotel rooms can be expensive as well. Make sure you get taxi through your hotel and not of the streets, make sure you visit Sharm El Sheikh because its fun :)

Very cheap to eat and drink. If you are going to get a taxi anywhere make sure you agree on a price before you get into the taxi. July is going to be very very hot even the Egyptian people find it to hot. But have fun Sharm is brill.

It's very hot in july (40-45°C)- !!!!!!!
Everything is cheap, average wages seems to be 30$ / month for an egyptian.
Even if you have "tourist price", you can have a very complete meal for 2/3 $
To be sure you must buy "closed drink" (0.25 $ for a bottle of pepsi)

I was there in July last year. Just as a warning it is MAD HOT! you cannot breathe, honestly it is crazy! Anyway I live in S.A s it was reasonably cheap . The food can be really dodgy though so be careful what you eat.. The booze is good, and cheap! Um we ha dlike a big mac meal ( super sized) for around $2.
