If you are planning a permanent move to the US, I have bad news. The US immigration law at present will not allow you green card entry unless you are either married to a US resident or you can invest over $1Million in the US. If you could get employment over there, you may stand a chance of getting admitted, but there rules are tight. My parents have been wanting to retire to florida for the past 5 years and there is just no way in for them. However, one interesting piece of news is that there is a rumour they are going to reduce that $1Million to $500,000. Check out the US immigration service website for more help :) IT@tonicweb.co.uk

You're better off than most of the people who move here. You speak English! If you move somewhere in the mid-west like Ohio, you can rent a place from about$300-$2500 a month. Houses to buy range from about $40K to multi-millions.

I guess it depends where you're moving from and what kind of life style you want when you're there. If you're planning in living in a flat and paying $500 a week, then you're going to need that much, plus airfares, plus food. Don't forget the food!
However if you're planning on buying a million-dollar block of land and settling in, you're going to need cash for food, and also a lot of cash for the property :P and airfares of course.

In short, it just depends on what life style you want there.

It depends on the city where you will live and if the job market is good in that city.
