I hope you are just naive and unthinking.
Why would Australia and the USA want a conflict?
The U.S.A. has the triad no one can knock that out and we now have more advanced systems in space that incorporate a satellite system and laser weapons etc.
Even hundreds upon hundreds of under water tracking devices.
Save the Whales etc.
Do you think they are swimming up on beaches for no reason.
Get with it man!
If you A-bomb America you and any several dozen countries are permanent dust in minutes.
Like back to the stone age for good it's suicide for any adversary.
Are you real?

This is not a good question it would be very hard for both as the rest of the world would take sides so they can bein on the big divvy up at the end of all the natural resources in Australia.

I didn't know it was a competitition!

Before asking questions like that, their may be some Australians on here who that shows a tremendous dis-respect to! It also disrespects their military!

Before asking that kind of question, that is so subjective it isn't funny, ask yourself who is kicking our butts in Iraq! And they have no military training at all!

Oh, go visit Australia and take a look around and give me your assessment on what major issues we would have, aside from ruining a good friendship and having a hell of a long haul to get anything down there!

Let's not predict future wars, Thanks. I'm already crazy with the war in Iraq...I don't think I could handle the troops over in Australia!!

Well, the USA's troops are stretched pretty thin right now. Are you sure we couldn't settle the problem over some beer? :-)
