I agree with the first post. It's laziness. Internet-speak is annoying. It's not that difficult to use correct punctuation or spell out you instead of just u.

I have wondered this myself...especially when there is a large icon that says...."check spelling" available. It may just be a grave reflection of the public school system. Who knows?
