I'm sick of being ignored when asking to learn something I know absolutely nothing about. "Well, if you don't know, how can we help?" Hell, if I knew, chances are I wouldn't be asking for the help.
People will explain things to me and expect me to understand what they've said. Then, if I don't understand, they insist I'm not listening. People just don't want to help those who are on a much slower track than those who whisk by with little or no effort at all.
How does one keep up when it's difficult to understand what is said? It doesn't matter what the subject is. I'm tired of "Be more specific." It isn't just 1 or 2 things. It's in general, everyday things. How to look up & find things in the newspaper, how to search in the phone book, understanding when others describe things, telling us to change the installments on the computer to which socket/ plug in, reading a map, how to figure out how to read a city bus map; I can read, but I don't get the pattern set up, etc....

A speech pathologist can assess your receptive listening skills. I don't think there's a problem in this area , but maybe you may want to get your hearing checked to rule out any hearing problems. You may also want to go to a psychologist to rule out any other learning disabilities. Good luck!

It sounds like you might have an auditory or visual processing disorder. These can be diagnosed by an audiologist. The previous suggestion of a speech pathologist is also a good one. I wish you all the luck! Please email me if you have any questions, I may be able to give you some resources to help you!
