I've got 2 days in Mumbai next month after spending a fair bit of time in India. Everything else I have sort of planned, but don't know about Mumbai. Would love to get to a great restaurant, anyone know of anything great? Or a page with links? Also, what to do during the day. I know of all of the stereotypical things from lonely planet, but any other suggestions? Thanks :)

Hi
Being in mumbai u can do a lot of things in two days..
u have two options crossed:
1. Enjoy and get tired.
2. Enjoy a bit less and not get tired really..

or.. a. spend a lot
b. not spend a lot

i'd suggest u options 2 and b. That would be the best combination.
You can start off your mornings in a hotel room or something similar, have ur lunch early and then move off to a market.. maybe Bandra or Worli, or you may want to travel the suburban railway train to get a feel of bombay crowd..
Spend the afty in the markets buying very inexpensive but really good indian clothes.
by evening go to andheri or santacruz by train and then reach out for the beach.. enjoy the sunset, eat from the many spicy food and ice cream stalls around (WORTH IT), or thr are some Excellent cafeteria's and restaurants infront of the beach at santacruz, u may eat there. (namely: Mocha, Shiv Sagar)

The evening can be better spent at the marine drive, which is downtown. Its a wonderful promenade along the sea, and the road bends along the curve... the lights on tht drive look like a queen's necklace in the night, its a sight ud love to see...

u can keep walking by the marine drive and then end up with a dinner in any of the numerous fine restaurants along tht road..

The next day, u may venture early to gateway of india, or Victoria Terminus and chk out the book stalls tht sell cheap / old /second hand books u may find something of ur interest.

That would be it, if ur a food lover and like spicy food, do eat at as many different sources as u can.
Try north indian and south indian food..
Try chicken tandoori kebab

its worth a walk... on the marine drive in the evening!
