I'm planning a trip to Pangkor in either June or July.

Which beach would be the best to go to? Cleanliless is of utmost importance, second would be facilities (banana boats, etc), third, transportation.

Is there a specific area to go to for good food? A couple of my Malay friends might be joining the trip, so good halal places would be nice.

I should have included this earlier. Sorry.

I'm a student, so my budget is quite small. How I wish I can afford even one night at Pangkor Laut.

Hi there,i just back from pangkor, bout a week ago.i been there 2 times b4,but that was when i was young with family,so this time i went alone by myself,i myself dont know anything much bout pangkor,i just gamble ...buy ticket to lumut from puduraya(RM 19).Bus 4 hours. Then when u arrive lumut buy ferry ticket(rm 10 for return ticket) there will be some salespeople approaching u,but they sure will suggest u not so affordable price for room :P .Ferry will stop at pangkor jetty, from there take taxi(pink minivan (rm 5-rm10) to teluk nipah(the happening area with many chalets and backpackers room and many crowds and eatery too ).I was staying at Nipah Bay Villa....its rm80 per nite(heater/ac/tv).There are many ppl in Teluk Nipah, mainly tourist, and there are many beach boys offering watersports like banana boat, jet ski, boat all around the island, canoe for rent, usually they charge canoe for RM 10 per hour u really should try.

If u want a cheap room u can get from rm50(room with ac) to rm40(room for 2 with attach bathroom) or rm30(its like a hut with fan and mattress).i know this backpacker guy who got a room for RM15 coz he negotiate with the owner coz he stay for more than 10 days.but this only possible during off season.I suggest u go to Nazri Nipah Camp they got room at 40&30 ringgit.and the chalet in front of nazri...i think their room is cheaper(coz my backpackers friend stay there).Ppl at pangkor are nice and friendly,i drive all around pangkor in just one hour i rent car at rm60(kancil),roads r narrow and bengkang bengkok, high slopes, not advise u to rent a bike coz if u not familiar with motorcyle ,it might be difficult to handle.takut u accident .sbb my friend yang local ckp,byk tourist sewa motor tapi tak reti bawak, alih alih eksiden. Most tourist rent a bicycles or walk all around the island, tapi semput la kalau u naik beskal, sampaikan ada yang jinjit beskal pun ada sebab tak larat nak kayuh jalan berbukit.

overall, pangkor is very beautiful, quiet and affordable too.U could see monkeys everywhere and hornbill, and watching sunset in the evening.i was initially plan to be there just for a day or 2,but ended up for 8 days 8 nite .I never went to a place where ppl always greets each other.Dont be snobbish with the locals, always smile and they'll be good with u too.

Foods price are reasonable,by the time im going not so many eatery is open, but u can still find food to eat...mainly malay/thai eatery.Nipah bay villa serve western food, they have cafe within their chalet, just in front the entrance, but u see western food always overprice ....net cafe are expensive...RM 4 for 30 mins.and dont forget ur sunblock ....coz i take things for granted last time and i didnt use sunblock at all i ended up getting sunburn, not only it turns me brown its also makes my skin feel painful...it feels sting that i cant sleep at nite :( .

since i've give u so many info i hope u'll choose me as the best answer....j/k

There are few beaches, such as Pasir Bogak, Teluk Nipah, Teluk Dalam etc, all these are relatively clean !

Many budgeted chalets are available there to suit you but never go there during public holiday, week end n school holiday as Pangkor would be jammed n those chalets/hotels/resorts might be fully booked except may be Pangkor Laut !

The better transport arrangement is rent a bike [ cost you about RM 25.00 per day ], this way you should be able to exploit Pangkor in full ! There are buses too but unless you don't mind the long wait for just a single trip !

bike rental are easily available, immediately after you walk out of the jetty, some chalet/resort do provide bike rental too !

food are plenty, halal or non halal ! with the rented bike, go hunt for yourself n choose the better one ! those at the chalet/hotel normally charged higher/more expensive !

get yourself a Pangkor's map so as not to miss all those attraction on the island !

whatever race [ be it Malay/Chinese/Indian ] you are, one should be able to fully enjoy the charm of Pangkor as the people there are very friendly n helpful too !

June/July is a good times, have a nice holiday !

please try [ www.island.com.my ] for more details of not just Pangkor but many others beautiful islands too !

With RM 800 per night I think Pangkor Laut is NOT a budget destination. Try instead to sort out your options at www.pulau-pangkor.com

Pangkor Laut, since as Pangkor is a lesser area, not recommended to go there.

Pick up the LonelyPlanet book. There's details on how to travel frugally. I've tried staying in places that costs only RM15 per night. With a bunch of friends, that is really enjoyable.

If you want the whole beach to yourselves, go to the more secluded beaches. They are generally cleaner too. It might be best to rent a bike to go around the island. Rent the bike from the jetty. Remember to always hunt around for the best bargains. Malay food/halal food are available anywhere. Do go for seafood, as it will be very cheap. Its all in the book, my friend. And it will be your best investment for your trip.

If you want a holiday to unwind and get away from the hustle and bustle of city activities and crowd, Pangkor is the answer. Go to Penang if you want the sun, sea, shop and sights of tourists attractions. In both places you can find high end and budget hotels ranging from RM300 onwards.
