bile is composed of water, cholesterol, lecithin, bilirubin and biliverdin, sodium glycocholate and sodium taurocholate. The purpose of bile is to emulsify lipids, which allows the lipids to be digested.

Bile is 82% water, 12% bile acids, lecithin, and other phospolipids (4%), and unesterified cholesterol. other components are bilirubin, proteins, electolytes, mucus, and often drugs and their by-products.
