A wise person once said, "you are known by your friends." Meaning: your friends are usually an extension of your own beliefs, thoughts, and feelings. Most friends have similar interests, and are trustworthy, a good example, and loyal.
Another wise person said, "you can be guilty by mere association." Meaning: if your friends are low-lifes, then most folks will consider you to be one as well!
When I was 16 I once accepted a ride to a school football game with some people I thought were my friends. Once we got to the game, they drove off and left me there alone for nearly 2 hours. When they returned, the driver had been drinking. I refused to get back in the car. (It was 45 miles back home, but I phoned some other people to ask for a ride back home).
Later that same evening all three kids in that car were arrested for underage drinking. Why? They were found Guilty by association to the driver. They all spent the night in jail even though only one of them had been drinking. And I NEVER hung out with those kids again. They were NOT my friends.

I think a best friend just happens. It's a friend who end up being there for you no matter what. Someone you can always talk to and who wont let you down.
Best friends are often hard to come by.

I choose my best friend by someone who has been there for me when I need them, someone who has seen me during my bad times as well as my good. They have either known me for years or not long at all - it doesn't matter.
Someone I can be myself with and not pretend to be someone I'm not. Someone I can tell my secrets to and know that they won't tell anyone else. Someone who won't judge me or put me down - but who can also tell me the truth - even if it some thing i don't want to know.
Someone to share good times and bad times and who I trust. And someone who will want to do something for me without asking for a favour in return

You Don't! Your Best Friend is the One person you can totally be yourself with. They will feel the same way. You laugh with them, Cry with them and generally tell them everything! I am lucky to have the most wonderful Best Friend ever. I love her to pieces and I don't know what I would do without her!

I never choose a best friend...
I met him in Nursury school 20 years ago, and the friendship grew.
In my humble opinion you dont pick best friends, times and situations and how they help you make best friends.

It has to me someone who you really get on with. First start with a talk and then go on from there. Remember that you don't look for another "you" in this person or you wouldn't get on so well with each other.
