Being born from there, definitely there are more poor people living there. The rich ones are either born that way and yes, some have illegal business practices to pocket more money which is unfortunate for the whole country.

As of personal observation I doubt if there is a majority of poor people in this country. I'd rather think the majority would be the middle class....

A lot of people simply say they're poor when in fact they are not...
What is a poor person anyway? If you get to eat thrice a day have at least a penny in your pocket and don't have to sleep at the streets then you are certainly not poor.

Here's another ironic thing:
Groups or parties whatever you call them march to the streets howling in protest blaming the government and others for their being poor. OH COME ON!!! Where did those banners come from? How 'bout those colorful streamers and uniforms? If they're poor how did they spend for all that?

actually it's more of the middle class...
the problem is that it's mostly the rich or the poor who are VERY emphasized on media...

but actually the poor population should be relatively small...
it's just that---when the rich or middle-class from the provinces migrate to the "Big City" to try to make it big...
only to find out there's nothing for them here...
you end up with beggars and squatters...(I'm not saying that all end up that way though)

as for the rich, some worked hard for it, some getting it from others' hard work, some getting it from doing bad things,etc...
in short, the rich are becoming more only because there are some who will work for it...the rest are just hoarded up by close people-either family dynasties, political parties...among others...

As in most developing countries, in the Philippines maybe the top 1% of the population controls 99% of the wealth. The Ayala family of Makati broke the top 50 richest familes in the world this past year.

One thing that I do find interesting in the Philippines is they do not try to hide the poor, like say in my native country of the USA. Even in the Makati business district whole families might sleep in the doorway of a bank, and the police do not harrass them.

Another thing is the Philippines does not deny their problems but instead they are trying to find solutions. Keep in mind this is still a budding democracy only 50 years removed from US occupation, and before that 400 years of Spanish rule. It is going to take more time than that to keep building a solid foundation for the future.

Just curious though: Is this a serious question?

Probably predominantly poor, but hey, us Filipinos are rich in heart. Everyones, well most, filipinos are hapy and quite content, especially in the province.

Compare that to the UK. Almost everyone seems miserable, always working or at home. They also tend to moan a lot and they seem very incontent with what they have. If it wasn't for extra cash, I'd be happy in a little kubo next to the beach chillin back home in Iloilo.

Philippines is a poor country. There are many poor people than rich people. Because, the Philippines cost a lot of money to the US. I don't know when and why it started, but if you are a Filipino and you are born, you already cost a lot to the US (In tagalog, we say "Sinilang ka pa lang, may utang ka na)!

So many more poor than rich, you should harvest your best local produce ie, your women and further establish an export market to Australia or holiday destination market with a difference !
