I don't understand it. Private companies decide to place Spanish words alongside English on their American products. We are not talking about curse words, pornography, racist, sexist, or violent content. We are talking about ANOTHER LANGUAGE on product labels. Why is there whining about this? It even benefits native English-speaking Americans in that it helps them learn (in a small way) another language like most of the rest of the modern world. Is this age-related? Because I am relatively young and I am used to other languages represented on the products I use (because they're imports, perhaps). Also Canada is very bilingual, there is French and English on everything. Are Americans just extremely xenophobic? I find the complaints about multilingual labels absolutely humorous. I am a born-and-bred American and non-Hispanic white. A lot of Spanish-speaking immigrants are legal, too. Is this nation going to fall apart because my conditioner has a couple of Spanish words?
