I was just getting ready for bed & hit the top of my head on the corner of my chest of drawers very hard. It scared the crap out of me when I did it. I have a gash on the top of my head & although I feel fine, I've always heard not to go to sleep if you have a concussion. Should I be okay?? What's some symptoms of a concussion?

symptoms of a concussion are

-having blurred vision or seeing spots (black spots )
-speech is slurred or having difficulty talking
-confusion or slow mentally processing things
-severe headache that won't stop
-dizziness or feelings of faintness
-nausea or vomiting
-severe sleepiness

as long as you don't have any of those symptoms-you should be fine. if there is someone in the house with you-have them check on you periodically if it will make you feel better.

for pain you can take ibuprofen (if not allergic). take 200-400mg every 6 hours but no more than 1200mg in 24 hours.

the knot on your head could be there for several days but if after 7 days it hasn't decreased in size or you have persistant headaches-make an appt to see your dr

hope you feel better soon

Some of the symptoms of concussion are seeing stars, dizziness, feeling dazed or lightheaded, loss of consciousness, confusion, headache, blurred vision, loss of short-term memory, perseveration, nausea & vomiting, slurred speech, anxiety for no apparent reason, loss of coordination and balance, poor concentration.

I don't think you need to worry if you're not experiencing these symptoms.

If you have a gash on your head, sounds like you might need to go to the ER anyway to have it stitched up. They can check for a concussion then.

Headache, dizziness, shortness of breath, blackouts, nausea, and vomiting. There may be others, but only those happened to me when I got a concussion.
