You can use it very very sparingly but I would just wait until you get more laundry soap. Really. Just run to Walmart or other round the clock store, and get some, or wait til the store of your choice is open.

The problem isn't so much ruining your clothes, but too much suds because dishsoap isn't made to be agitated like that. You can cut down on the likelihood of the sudsing problem if you pour a little bit of liquid fabric softener, or some hair conditioner, right into your wash water. It won't interrupt the detergent action of the dishsoap, and it will control the bubbles.

I've done it in a pinch, and only just tried it for the first time recently. I used about half what I would normally just because I wasn't sure how it would do. Everything came out great, the whites were whiter in fact, and smelled better I thought. Don't put the hair conditioner -- that part is silly. Plain vinegar is a good laundry softener.

Yes you can, your clothes just aren't going to smell as good. My step mom used to do this every now and then. She would just put 1/2 to 3/4 the amount to prevent it from over foaming.

No, the dish soap will produce more suds. And you will have a mess to clean up..
