Both games are magnificent. Morrowind may look a bit dated now, but it's still pretty amazing and there's mods out there to improve character textures and faces, etc. Oblivion looks absolutely fantastic and plays quite similar to Morrowind. I actually logged more hours on Morrowind than Oblivion and thought Morrowind's main quest was much better than Oblivion's. The side quests are a little better in Oblivion. Simple answer: both games are huge and both are awesome.

Get both. They're incredible. I agree with Jeremy, that the main story line if Morrowind is better than Oblivion. Yes the graphics are a bit dated, but the game remains one of the best I've ever played. With the mods you can download (and even create yourself using the TES Construction Set) you can potentially double the length of the game, or more.. I've put in about 300 hours into Morrowind with all my mods loaded. You can find out more about them here:
http://www.elderscrolls.com/home/home.htm
Scroll down to the end of the page and look under "Downloads" click on "Plugins" to go to the official plugin page. There are a few listed on this page, but at the bottom there are links to more sites with thousands of them. The one I usually use is "Planet Elderscrolls".
The side-quests in Morrowind are great, but a lot of them are simple "go kill this guy" or "find this artifact" quests. Not that they're not fun, but I think there's a bit more variety in the Oblivion side-quests.
There are more and more mods coming out for Oblivion as well. If you really get into modding the games, there's enough material to play these games for years.
With the price of Morrowind being so low, there's no reason not to get both. It's worth it.

morrowind is a great game with a great story. and, morrowind is much much larger then oblivion. the game takes a very long time to complete, and is extremely fun if you get the right mods to make it more realistic. I do like oblivion, but i still like playing morrowind

oh, oops, morrowind has many many more quests, and more then you can download. for quests morrowind is much bigger

morrowind on the other hand has so much more to do the main story is cool the wepons needed to fight are awsome if you dont have the glove. it just take to long to get anywere if no fast travel.
but think morrowind is the better of the two

Did you start with Oblivion? Honestly, going from Oblivion to Morrowind can ruin your experience. Note there's a lot of features missing in Morrowind, like Fast Travel. It's also a lot of text reading, and patience. I loved Shivering Isles; It's a beautiful expansion that was definitely worth the buy. I would buy Shivering Isles!

Both games are awesome. I really don't know which one I like better. I know that both will keep you busy for a long time with countless sidequests. Lots of places to explore and lots of things to steal and sell for gold :)
