unfortunately with the price of eveything these days this seems to be the case with almost everyone. I sat down with my computer one day and had a long talk. We started with fixed monthly expenses like house pmt. car pmt. electric and such. then we went into other "optional" expenses like food, clothing, gas, next we tackled other things like extras, cigarettes, magazines, lottery tickets, eating out and other entertainment. I was able to pull together most of this info by examing past bank statements. All those $20.00 at walmart that you just "spent when you went in for mascara" really added up. I have looked carefully at ways to change the situtation. I now go to the closest drug store (about a block away) to buy my little things like mascara, it might cost more there but the 5.95 is worth it compared to the 20.00 in other stuff at walmart. I have cut other things too, cigaretes, meals out (except for entertainment.) even a trip to Mickey D's with a child costs close to 15.oo so I have started cooking at home more and when I cook, I freeze meals so that stops the :I don't want to cook tonight so lets go to McD." It is amazing the way you can cut out to find more and still have a good time. I have a goal, retirement in mind. and since I started to revamp my spending habits I am able to put more money away each month and have been able to cut out my parttime job. Good luck.

For your work : Dont work 'hard', work 'smart'. You need to be an effective 'time manager' and learn to bite only what you can chew. No boss wants quantity of hours you put it, its the quality of work you achieve in those 8 hours.

As regards bill payment : If you work smart, you'll be left with a lot of time after office hours which can help you say, giving tuitions, baby-sitting etc., to make some extra buck ! You can also use this time to do home business or sell stuff on e-bay or sell some products for commission (you can take your daughter to see places while you drive from one place to another selling stuff!)

I had a friend just like you, worked two jobs even, yet never had money. I made her a simple budget in Excel and it completely turned her life around and she was able to quit her part-time job. Her problem was that she was horrible at estimating her needs every month and would spend what she thought she could, not what the numbers said. I'd suggest using an Excel spreadsheet with your paychecks and monthly bills and expenses listed and/or use a program like Microsoft Money to do the same, just fancier.

Go to the library and check out a book on simple investing or saving. Most will begin with telling you to drop your latte habit. Find out what little indulgence you spend money on needlessly, and begin to drop the habit. Take the money and put in a separate envelope. At $4 a latte, your savings will add up quickly.

Sad isn't it?

Just try and put a little away now and again, hopefully nothing comes up like the car braking down or something else...

You haven't said what kind of job you do,or how many hours you work.
Have you considered switching careers?
There is a better paying job out there just waiting for you.
Good luck.
