Every ten years the literate population of India goes up by about 10%. During its independence, there were only 12% literate Indians, according to the 1991 census there are 52% literate Indians, meaning that over half a billion people are literate. Education is monitored in India by state governments and this finds its expression in different figures for different states. Kerala in south India, with a population of 30 million, has the highest literacy rate in India of about 90%. Rajasthan in north India, with a population of 45 million, has the lowest literacy rate of about 40%
now in 2006 literacy rate: 79.9%...so i think we achive the a fullfillment soon..

Education in this country is something that can be debated for a very long time to come. One of the reasons education is ristricted to the Urban folk and not that freely to the rural is because if the rural and the underpriveledged are educated then where will our dear politicians run for their votes.
Education helps break barriers of age, sex, caste, religion and anything and everything that builds virtual walls. But despite that, even in well developed cities in India we can see people discriminate between Black n White, Dark n Fair, Rich n Poor, High and Low castes and what not.
We need to ask ourselves the question "Do you think our Leaders needs to be educated?"

No not at all. It will take another 100 years to get totally educated. The reason is people don't have money. People don't learn the way they should learn. Indians don't have the best Universities and best Schools. So called Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) supposed to be one of the best instiutes is ranked 54th position of the whole World education institute.

If you mean the british schooling system, then the anwer is no... not all attend the school... but Indians are definitely more knowledge and skilled. This might not be received from the school, instead handed down as tradition from the family or community

No, illiteracy is rampant in many states. Government should formulate education policy that could be benefitted by remote and interior places.
