NBC News and Washington Globe reporter, Bill Arkin, called US troops 'mercenaries'= paid fighters with no loyalty to country . Bil Arkin, while supposedly remaining objective avoided other reporters demands that he address the comment he made . Arkin avoided answering at all costs... . I watched them attempt to get him to respond . This happening after NBC News has made a decided effort to turn to the far left for RATINGS .

Do you think Arkin should be allowed to masquerade as an objective reporter, when he has a long history of hatred and disdain for our military guys and gals ?

EDIT* - He made many other disparaging remarks including saying that American troops get an 'obscene' amount of care packages.. .. .implying that they were given more than they deserve . I wish I had a link to the stroy.. .. but I'm sure somebody here can provide it .
Will you watch NBC News if this guy is allowed to continue to spew his hatred for our military personnel ?

Ha. . . . Some of you have no idea of what a 'news reporter' is supposed to be . Unbiased and without personal opinion . Personal opinion is for 'news commentators' . Now go back to your little class rooms and spread the knowledge .

And YES, he called our troops that . Before attacking me, perhaps you all should learn what he has done !!!

Actually the second biggest force in Iraq consists of contractors. A large portion from a firm based in NC called Black Water who is a major Shrub supporter. If you want to know what undermines the morale of the military, it is paying the mercenaries 200K salary while paying the enlisted members 1500 a month.

I take it someone watched The O'Reilly Factor today.

One guy makes a statement, and suddenly he has a "long history of hatred and disdain for our military guys and gals.", and NBC is suddenly as left-wing as Air America? Cute. And I'll bet you believe Fox News is "fair and balanced" right?

If NBC is far-left, they are sure doing a good job of hiding it, much better than Fox News's blatantly obvious conservative bias.

Why does Fox News employ hosts that attack anyone who opposes the Iraq war, or conservatism in general?

Ok here's his stuff. I found it sort of. HE wrote a OP/ED PIECE not NEWS REPORT!

http://blogs.washingtonpost.com/earlywarning/

It was a freaking column. His op/ed piece. You ever read Maureen Dowd and other left columnists? Dowd write about Bush like he's some kind of evil hillbilly.

Shouldn't make too much fuss over column op/ed piece. Obviously this is not what 'left' is like in general. It is completely wrong to say it is 'left' and 'liberals' who bash US troops. This is extreme case. There are people like Arkins on both left and right, so please don't generalize and don't hop on that 'liberal media bad' band wagon.

All this stuff with criticism over liberal media, Fox news is getting old. If you hate Arkins, that's fine, but don't turn every thing you don't like into giant crusade against so called 'evil liberal media.'

If you look at the other "entertainment" programs (propaganda would be a better word) you will notice that NBC has a definite political agenda that is anti-conservative, anti-war, anti-Bush. Every chance they get to add a political remark in their programming, NBC slips in a sucker-punch to mainstream American ideals.

It is no great shock that NBC would use Arkin in their news pieces. He fits their agenda perfectly.

That's why I don't watch NBC news. I heard about this and the man should be ousted instantly. The only one with no loyalty to this country is Bill Arkin and NBC news for allowing it.
What a damn traitor to our men fighting for this country. What a traitor to this country, period. The terrorists have to love it.

NBC is pandering to the left look at Keith Olbermann on MSNBC.
He makes a living at bashing anyone right of center. The guy was a sports caster for God sakes. Only about 15% of journalist admit that they are conservative. What does that tell you about media bias. This guy Arkin needs to lose his job. He is suppose to report the news not give us his commentary!

Have you considered the possibility that your soldiers are mercenaries as in Nicaragua, Grenada, Vietnam, Panama, Angola , Uganda , Iran , Iraq , Chile , Philippines, Shanghai, Tripoli, the Whole Pacific (though I'll forgive you MOST of that one), Liberia, Mexico, Sierra Leone, China, Russia, Libya ?

I don't know of Bill Arkin but I think I like him.

As to "guys and gals" a bit unimpressive as a comment for the poor individuals who have to fight your wars of aggression. At least I would call them ""men and women!"

Also the OBVIOUS RIGHT of a journalist to publish his or her views is THE fundamental of democracy. I suspect democracy is the last thing on your agenda. Do you hate?

So you want a "yes" man. You don't want people to speak their minds. Why does Arkin have to answer for his comments? He has the right. Why can't anyone criticize the US Army? They are out there in Iraq killing thousands of people. Is that right? Why don't you speak out against killing? Make excuses if you want, but that's the truth.

You would think they would, seeing as other reporters have had little "slips of the tongue" by the same company and lost their jobs. But I guess it all depends on who he offends. The only way they would take action is if there was damage to their pocketbooks and the only remedy is his dismissal. You and others who believe he should be dismissed need to petition the network and GE, and boycott all news from this source. Forget publicity of the event that only works in their favor. You have to turn your back on them completely.
