My fiancee' and I would like to honeymoon in the Bahamas. Unfortunately, he is unable to obtain a passport. Do you need one to go to the Bahamas or should we start planning our honeymoon at the US Virgin Islands?

He has a prior felony conviction (from a long time ago) so they won't let him have a passport.

Yes you do to travel outside of the US and upon returning. Congratulations and I hope you have a great time. I am a native of Nassau Bahamas and my husband and I want to renew our vows in my home time .

US citizens are required to enter & exit the US on their US passport. You need your US passport to leave for the Bahamas, and you need your US passport to get back into the US. Since you are US citizen, you have no US visa in your UK passport. Try to use that when leaving the US for Bahamas and you could have serious trouble. Of course, you cannot get back into US without US passport, either. Renew your US passport or cancel your trip. You are not going anywhere without it.

A prior felony conviction should not prevent someone from obtaining a PP. But you will need a PP to go to The Bahamas', even if you are on a cruise. The suggestion to go to Puerto Rico is an excellent one.

Yes, you need one to go to the Bahamas. You should either choose the us virgin islands or puerto rico. My husband and I recently went to Puerto Rico (Nov 06) and loved it!!! We have been to the Bahamas, all over Mexico, US Virigin islands and we were married in the Dominican Republic. I think you should check into Puerto Rico, it is beautiful and very affordable. I suggest staying on the west coast, around Rincon. Good luck and congrats!

You will need a passport if you are flying to the Bahamas, but if you are taking a ship you don't need one. The U..S. Virgin Islands is a territory of the United States, so you don't need a passport.

U.S. Virgin Islands. You both will need a passport to reenter the United States from The Bahamas.

Why is he "unable to obtain a passport?" Just wondering if that is correct.

You now need a passport to come & go anywhere out of the US, even the Caribbean. If you go on a cruise, you don't need one. There are lots of nice places in the US with great beaches, Florida, Alabama. Congratulations :)
