you have to file if you earned any income this year. The only difference is that you will most likely be considered a dependent to your parents instead of an independent (on your own.) So you will check the box that says "dependent"

If your parents claim you as a dependent, you can't file and if not , then it depends on how much you make: at least this is what the people at H&R Block told us when we asked. You can call them and ask them . There may be exceptions. Who knows now days but the experts. They go to school every year to keep up with new tax laws.

Are we talking high school or college? If college and you pay tuition then yes, if you made any taxable income, usually over $1,000.00. If high school, and you have a job with taxable income over $1,000.00, yes also, but in this case you would check the block that says you can be claimed by someone else (parents).
If your parents pay for all that you do in either case and you don't have a job, then for the love of god let them get the $3,000.00 (estimate) deduction on you! I'd say they need it if they are totally supporting you and who knows maybe you can sweet talk them into a shopping spree!
You could also contact an accountant and ask their opinion, but the best idea in this whole situation is to talk with your parents, they know your situation better than anyone.
