My son has the ethernet cable and just got the entire system today. we have ethernet connections in two rooms of our house. Does the console need to to be connected to the actual modem? That would interfere with our pc and laptop interenet. Help please.

We figured it out. We just had to connect directly to the modem. I can still get internet access on my laptop (WLAN), but we can't get it on the pc. Thanks for the answers

How is your Laptop and PC connected? If you already have 2 devices connecting to one Internet device, then there should be no problem adding the Xbox.

Otherwise I'd really recommend investing in a (WLAN-)router that allows more connections to a single Internet line.

If buying a new router is not an option, you can connect the Xbox to the PC (if its running Windows XP or 98 Second Edition) with the aid of a "crossover Ethernet" cable.

It is important, that it is a crossover cable. A normal Ethernet cable will not work this way.

After connecting PC and Xbox, start the Internet Connection Sharing assistant on your PC and follow the step by step instructions.

However, I still recommend getting a router, as with this method, the PC must be running while paying Xbox online, wich is a big energy waste. A PC will use about 150 Watts when running. A router alone will run with about 6 to 20 Watts (depending on the model).

Your electricity bill will thank you for this.
