If baby is well, dry, and not hungry, he may just need to cry a bit to fall asleep. But listening to a baby cry is hard work. A few minutes can seem like an hour! To help you wait, set a timer for 10 minutes. You might even want to wear ear plugs or close a door to help muffle the baby's crying. If baby is still crying after 10 minutes, go again to check whether something is wrong, then set the timer again.

If your baby is only 4mo then he still needs night time feeds. A baby is not really capable of sleeping through until about 6 months (except for the chosen few who do it very early). If your baby wakes for a feed then feed him & put him back to bed. From 6 months old your baby is old enough to start 'controlled crying' where you let the baby cry with reassurance until they learn to put themselves back to sleep. My baby is only starting to sleep through now & he is 7mo & my other 2 were the same. Just ease off on yourself & all the well meaning people who tell you your baby should be sleeping through. The first 12 months of your baby's life goes so quickly & you never get it back so don't make it a miserable time for you both.

Personally no,I do not like to hear a baby cry, find out why he's crying, if everything's ok then it's up to you but what my husband and I did is we put our baby in bed with us,it was the only way to sleep between feedings.I know there are people that don't agree with this but I have never regreted it, he stayed with us until he was 5 and never had a problem when he got his own room.

No, it's not okay to let him cry it out. Studies have shown that when parents do that, over time the actual brains of the babies changes--for the worse. They, like adults, need warmth of the bodies of the people that they love. They still need nighttime feedings as well. Dr. William Sears has written EXCELLENT books on this and so many other baby issues. If you make your baby cry it out, he will believe that he isn't important and that you aren't there for him. Read Dr. Sears--he rocks. Congrats on your baby! Cherish every minute....they grow fast. :)

That's an iffy question. It can take kids up to year or more to fully sleep through the night, some kids will start as early as 2 weeks. However, 6 months is the average. I wouldn't let him cry himself to sleep just yet, when babies are that young, they can cry soo hard that they cut off their oxygen supply to the brain and it can result in brain damage. Good luck!
