im still nursing and i got a milk blister over a month ago. well over a month ago. it was awful, but i nursed my son through it because that is what is supposed to make it get better.

well, now its worse. it is swollen up in the part where the blister is. tonight for the first time i tried to scrape it with a needle (recommended on kellymom, i think.. cant remember for sure) and the needle went in, no pain, as if there was a hole there. the white around the edges stayed.

its almost as if i have a canker sore on my nipple. that same white sore looking thing that is surrounding the hole. i dont know if i am describing it right. i would take a picture if i wasnt so shy about it.

anyhow... what could be wrong? what can i do to fix it, short of seeing a doctor? i dont have insurance yet so i cant go to one for another few weeks.

help! please!

You should get it checked ASAP....coming from experience with breast issues it can be disfiguring to have an infection in your breast. My mastitis was caused by an infected piercing but I in the end lost alot of breast tissue and later on had issues breast feeding from the scar tissue in my left breast, plus on top of my nipple has been inverted on that side ever since and wont pop out for much of anything. Watch for red streaks coming from the sore...it could be staph.

If you go onto the websites of Mother-to-Mother.com and kellymom.com there are various discussions of milk blisters and how to care for your breasts and nipples while nursing. There are pictures of the various types of blisters and lots of helpful suggestions including bathing/washing your nipples in warm salt water before and after nursing.

I did not see any mention of scraping the affected area with a needle and would be very cautious doing that because of the risk of infection spreading throughout the milk ducts. They do recommend that you encourage your child to nurse on the unaffected nipple, in order to give the affected nipple time to heal.

If you just key in milk blister into a web search, all of these links should come up. Best of luck and congratulations on the baby. Have a good night.

hi
im breastfeeding my son whos 8 mths and i had a sore nipple for about 2 weeks and kept on feeding him on it.
It was getting worse and was so painful so i went to the doctors and was given antibotics for it
I took these for 5 days and have been able to feed him with this nipple!

I had a infection but thankfully its healed

Do express milk from that breast though and then store it in your freezer. I done this and now have about 10 jars of breast milk in my freezer.
Good luckx

You may have irritated it with a bra which means you might not have noticed it getting sore, you could have a cyst, it could be an infection, there are so many things that it could be. I would make an appointment to see your doctor as soon as possible, in cases like this you need someone who is qualified to tell you what it is. I hope you feel better soon, so sorry for the discomfort you are in.

i would contact your local Breast Feeding support group.
sounds like you have a clogged milk duct. or perhaps your little one is latching on wrong and causing the sore with each feeding. Are you running a fever, this would be a sign of infection. Yes call your local support group.
Blessings and good luck to you.

Even though your baby is 13 months, s/he may be biting on your nipple...there is a breastfeeding.com website and they have Sue Leisner who is a lactation consultant. She would be a great person to ask. Otherwise, call your local WIC office to see if there is a lactation consultant there who may be willing to see you. I hope that helps.

well it sounds pretty bad and u what u need is to get to a doctor and have them look at it...but it sounds like u might have a bacterial infection...i myself just got over "Thrush" and it can be quite painful, my daughter had also split me so it was pretty bad...now thrush is almost like a yeast infection of the breast, a bacterial infection...so if u have anything like this u and your son need to be on antibiotics...because whatever u have, u can pass to your son...see a doctor any doctor asap, even if u have to go to a walk in clinic...thats what i did, but this can not wait to get into an appointment a few days down the road...Good Luck[

Try massage or a hot water bottle. Go to the doc if it gets worse, you don't want to get it infected. That's a whole lotta pain.

YIKES.... i know how the insurance thing goes. but, u can probley go to a health clinic or a health dept. i know, i know... i would'nt want to go to either myslf, but it sounds like you need to get something done. did you call your doc? or call a nurse hotline? they maybe able to give you sum advice.
however, you really need to get it checked as there "could" be some infection in there and it could get passed to the baby and you wouldn't want that..
good luck and GOD bless....
