this past december, my doctor discovered that i was anemic. the last time i got my period was in november but it was very light. im taking my iron pills and eating healthy food rich in iron, but it is now february and since december i havent had any bleeding when i should be menstruating. im very, very concerned. i know im not pregnant though, so that is absolutely out of the question. is this normal for someone with anemia or should i go see my doctor right away?

I'm also anemic and being anemic doesn't stop your menstruation. I've been anemic for almost a year, and it hasn't affected me at all. There are lots of things that could affect a girl's period. Stress is the main one. All I could say is stop worrying and call your doctor and let them know whats going on.

My grandfather was an OB-gyn. Patients would call him over what they considered heavy bleeding, day or night. My mother remembered he had standard questions he asked to determine whether they needed to go to the ER or could wait until the next day to see him in his office. Some were medical history (since he didn't have their files at home), some were about the possibility of pregnancy or miscarriage, some were delicate inquiries about whether there'd been a rape, some were about pain, and the one Mom remembered most was, "Are you bleeding so much it filled your shoes?" If the answer was yes, the woman was sent to the ER. Everyone else's idea of "heavy" wasn't so heavy as to be a cause for immediate concern.

If you have always been this way, then maybe its normal for you but women should menstruate regularly even if she is anemic. Maybe you could be having some hormonal problems as well. If you are physically active which means that you have adequate exercise or a "busy body" ...then you should have a regular monthly period.

Yes it's quite normal because your blood level has gone down. The doctor can help by giving you some blood tonic as well as eating iron building foods.

absolutely normal
I can't believe all these people saying anemia does not interfere with periods. IT ABSOLUTELY DOES.

many. many reasons for no periods like, stress, change in exercize routine, weight is to little for your height, eating disorders, medications for something else

It's never 'normal' for someone to miss their period. It could be a lot of things.

It's best to ask your doctor, since they can run the appropriate tests.

Anemia does not stop your periods. You should go see your doc about this.
