Actually the first two answers are incorrect. You CAN connect a PC and a notebook with a USB cable and do some networking with them. However, you need to right cable. You need a USB Crossover Cable. This is because of the way the USB cable, and other cables such as Ethernet, work. There are four pins in a USB cable. Two are for electricity. One is for sending data, and the other is for receiving data. If you don't get a crossover cable you end up trying to send data into the other computer through the receiving pin and visa versa. You can network them with the crossover cable.

However, I would highly recommend using ethernet, WiFi, or Bluetooth which are built more for that set up and are easier to network with. Especially if it's permanent or you're trying to give the other computer internet. An ethernet router and cables can cost as much as an A to A USB crossover cable. If you're looking simply to transfer files once, you're better off with an external hard or flash drive.

May be. But they usually use parallel cable. Looks just like ethernet cable, but let 2 pcs share data.
