You need a DVD ROM drive to play DVD's, and you nees additional software to watch movies. Otherwise the pc reads the audio files on the disc and ignores the info it can't read.
If you go to the Control Panel you'll be able to find out if you have a DVD drive. Click Start - Control Panel - Sound & Audio devices; click the Hardware tab and the drive will be listed. If it says DVD then you're ok.
As for software, I like Power DVD. I'm using a freeware version. Windows XP cannot recognise DVD's so you need to add software.
If you have the DVD drive and a program then update your codecs.

CD are for burring and reading files and music as well as photos. For movies or Digital Video you need a DVD to see a video file.
Also if it is only a CD player it will only see cd's you need a duel reader combo....dvd and cd reader.

It could be your codecs ? There should be only 1 codec a person needs and that can be found @ the link below ! :)
Download and install the XviD-1.1.2-01112006.exe
Goodluck and hope it works :)

You need codecs. Try the Kazaa Lite Codec Pack. Download it from any number of sites, just Google the name.

yah, mine is doing that to. you need to simply update your video card. OR your driver for your current video card is corupt. The drive (in the meantime) is still able to read the disk as an audio file.
