Does anyone know which would be the best place to open up an Equity Brokerage and Commodity Brokerage account?

Etrade has a wide range of service. Commisions are competitive. I chose them because I could link checking and debit card to brokerage acct.

It depends on what you're trying to accomplish and what your level of understanding is with investing. Ameritrade is probably the cheapest, but you will have to do your own research and direction. Charles Schwab is pretty reasonable and you will be able to get advice from a financial advisor. If you want the "Nordstrom" of the brokerage house you can go to Morgan Stanley, Goldman, AG Edwards and so on.

I like Scottrade. Only 7 bucks a trade. Lots of stuff on there to help you research too. No annoying e-mails trying to sell you something either. I don't know if they handle commodities though. But for stocks they have been great for me.

The best place is wherever you can talk to a live person. Look under financial advisors in the yellow pages. I like Fidelity. They have a local office which has really helped.
