Anytime I want to stream a video or audio file it downloads. Having the download window popup all the time is getting rather annoying and it is prohibiting me from converting to Firefox. Is there a way to change this?

Firefox does not use ActiveX controls. That is why it is more secure than IE.

Go searching for Firefox plug-ins, you may be able to find some to do what you want.

I think it mostly depends on the plug-ins you use - I know windows media player allows media streams, as do others.
It may be that the one Firefox is told to use recognises that it's supposed to have an ActiveX control before it's supposed to stream. See if switching the plug-in that controls the video extension (.wmv or .avi or whatever) to another one will help.

There are two ways of doing this -
Easy way:
Find a file on your system that's the same format as the streaming video (Adblock Plus will tell you what it is - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1865/), right click on the file and choose "Open with..." and in the list that comes up, choose something different.

Hard way:
The other way is to go into Firefox's Tools > Options > Content (tab) > File Types > [Manage] and find the file type in there. This is harder because you need to know where the plug-in / program is.

I hope this helps... and in the future, if you have a problem like this, head over to http://mozillazine.org/ or http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=38
It's a bit more specialized knowledge over there.

You probably have to download the appropriate plug-in. Go to Mozilla.org/updates. You can also check the release notes for more info.
