I think is because New York City has more famous international recognize landmarks than Phili.

I think I have read somewhere that in the late 19th century it was realized that New York was more easily accesible as a major port than Philadelphia. While NY is awesome and large, it has become boring and conservative; Philadelphia is liberal, edgy, and half corrupt, and has everything NY lost in the way of "cool" ten years ago.

I agree with the above answers as far as big business is concerned. Its also the home of Wall Street, pretty important.

However Philly is smaller, but the history of the city has much more to offer then NYC. It was the first nation's capital and where the Constitution was signed.

I love both cities, both have so much to offer!
