So basicaly you've answered your own ques. Not all females are screwed up like that just the overwhelming majority. I once had a lady friend or so I thought for 18 yrs. and at the end of that 18 th. yr. she commited an unforgiveable act of "larsony" which is "treason". There's only one thing to do my friend and that is don't under any circumstances "play ya self"!! Get the hell out of there "NOW" cause it ain't gonna get any better and you know this. Be a father to your kids best you can, but create some hurried distance between you and the mom. In time your wounds will heal & maybe just maybe a new love will come into your life and if not then have many loves but "occupy your life" with nothing but positive things & people!!

As that confused philosopher, Maddox, said: "What women really want is a good looking guy that treats them like ****."
Not all of them... but in many cases, that's a truth like a cathedral.
You'll see, mostly, human relationships are out of the boundaries of logic, so... Don't let this eat you. If she prefers somebody else, that doesn't mean you're inferior in any way, just that she's not who you thought she was. I know that might be world-shattering, but believe me, you'll live trough it. Even if you don't want to.
Have a nice life, and remember:

It's not your kids fault,
It's not every other women's fault.

Those two lines are more of a mantra than actual advice, so don't feel offended by them. Honestly, Good luck.

Here's a book you might find useful, "Are You the One for Me?" by Barbara deAngeles. She talks about why you would marry someone who is like your parent, which is what seems to have happened to you.

Your wife went for someone who is incarcerated? That is messed up.

I know you're very unhappy now, but I hope you will pursue counseling with your wife, or even without her. If there is any way at all that you can put this together for the sake of your kids, I hope you will try, even if you don't feel like it. Otherwise, they're in danger of having the same thing happen to them, repeating the pattern.
