AVS DVD Copy description Download
AVS DVD Copy is a convenient and demanded software to make DVD copies, create DVD discs for home DVD Players and perform other burning tasks.

Copy genuine movies in the original, Hollywood-like quality, give new life for corrupted DVD discs, write Blu-Ray/DVD/CD data discs, make ISO Image of your movies and burn it later whenever you want, as many times, as you need.

Assuming you just need a few clips and nothing extensive.....
I would recommend you download the trial version of TechSmith "Snagit". Its a very cool piece of software that allows you to capture basically anything you see on your screen including video and audio.

The idea would be that you play the DVD on your computer and capture the pieces that you want using Snagit.

Other options would require you to rip the DVD and since most are copy protected you would need some software like dvd shrink etc to do that then another piece of software to "edit" the actual video and take out pieces that you want to keep. Therefore I propose the easiest / quickest method : Snagit. (You can also use this software for many other usefull things as a student)

The following is an excerpt from the cnet site about Snagit. (PS i don't work for techsmith :)

To grab video, select the Record Screen Video option from the main screen and click the microphone icon in the Options box to grab the audio, as well. When you've got your chosen video in place, click SnagIt's big, red record button. The SnagIt interface then disappears and you're prompted to drag a rectangle across the area you want to save. Press the Start button in the pop-up window and then start your video. When you're done, finish recording by pressing the program's hot key (PrintScreen, by default). You'll then return to the SnagIt interface where the program prompts you to save your creation.
