Atomic number is the number of protons of an element. Therefore, the answer is 26.

The atomic mass is the SUM of protons and neutrons so, the answer is 56.

In a neutral atom, the number of electrons is the same number as the protons -- thus electrically neutral.

BUT, since your given number of electrons is 2 less than the protons, then the atom has a charge of +2. That means it has an excess number of 2 protons.
So, what is the electrical charge? It is positively charged or a +2 cation.

The atomic number is 26.
(Atomic number is the number of protons.)

The atomic mass is 56.
(The atomic mass is the sum of protons + neutrons. Electrons are so tiny that they are not considered to have a mass.)

There is a +2 electrical charge.
(There are two less electrons than protons. Protons are positively charged and electrons are negatively charged. To make it more clear, if it was the other way around and there were two MORE electrons than protons, there would be a charge of -2 because of the extra two negative charges. If there were the same number of protons and electrons, it would be neutral, meaning it would not have a charge.)

26 protons is the key. It is the atomic number and defines the element. It is iron. Since it has 2 less electrons than protons, it is the iron (II) ion. It has a +2 charge. Iron forms a second common ion that has a +3 charge. With 30 neutrons it is the most abundant isotope of iron, Fe-56 which is 91.72% abundant. 56 is the mass number NOT the atomic mass as is being misreported by the other responses. Its atomic mass is 55.9349421 +- 0.0000015 amu

Strictly speaking, it will not be an atom (which has to be electrically neutral) but an ion. Its atomic number is 26 and its atomic mass is 56. Its electrical charge is +2. That means it is a positively charged ion and can accept 2 electrons to become neutral.

there is not any such ingredient as Fe2-. Iron is the two Fe, Fe2+ or Fe3+. So i think of you propose Fe2+. Atomic sort of Iron is 26. So Fe2+ might have 26 - 2 = 24 electrons. Atomic weight is fifty 5,eighty 5, so the sum neutrons and protons would be fifty six. The small distinction is as a results of the reality that isotope fifty six is somewhat dominant, yet small quantities of isotopes fifty 4, fifty seven and fifty 8 additionally exist. sort of protons is 26. (equivalent to the type of electrons in Fe). fifty six - 26 = 30 neutrons.
